Inverlochy, Fort William
Inverlochy forms part of the Fort William catchment area and was purpose built in the 1920s to house incoming workers for the newly built British Aluminium Company, now known as Rio Tinto Alcan
Inverlochy was one of the first places in the UK with electricity as a result of the large hydro generating station which is an integral part of the Alcan plant.
The village has its own pleasant shopping square, a primary school and lots of very well maintained, privately owned housing. You can walk or cycle to Inverlochy from Fort William by following the road past the Nevis Centre. It's also a pleasant walk to Inverlochy Castle Ruin which is a mile or so towards the Lochy Bridge. Just past the ruined castle is the Alcan Social Club which has an active bowling club and social facilities with great views of The Ben. Visitors and non-members are welcome. The Club has live entertainment quite regularly. Nevis Cycles are based in Inverlochy and offer bike hire, bike sales and service - all with a personal service. Next door there's a music shop if you need some new strings or fancy a new guitar...
The Fort William - Nevis Range Cycle Path goes by the Alcan social club and follows the River Lochy to the Ben Nevis Distillery, so you can cycle from Fort William all the way to Nevis Range - without having to cycle on the main A82 road
